Corporate Dropouts shares the inspirational stories of women who took the traditional route of a corporate career only to realise that the 9-5 wasn’t for them. These courageous leaders threw it all in and embarked on the journey of starting their own business and building a life based on their terms. In these stories, they share the ups, the downs and lots in between on their journey from Corporate Dropout to successful CEO.

Margarita Astrálaga was born in Colombia and has worked more than 40 years with Government agencies, NGOs and international organizations. She has lived in Denmark, Scotland, Kenya, Switzerland, Spain, Panama and Italy, and now spends her time between the south of Portugal, the south of Spain, and Switzerland with her husband. She loves travelling, meeting new people and learning about other cultures. Her mission in life is to contribute to inclusive and better development, providing fairer opportunities to women and youth in the developing world. She retired recently after a long international career and is now the proudest grandmother. She’s happy to finally be able to reconnect with the many friends around the world that she hasn't seen or talked to because of the long working hours for the last decades, while she supports pro-bono several institutions, such as the Climate Smart Agriculture Youth Network.

The name Wadzanai means reconcile, or live in harmony in Shona. Wadzanai was born in Zimbabwe where she did all her primary and high school education, and she did her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the United States. She works in international development, has run a free-lance development consulting business, a family agricultural concern of 180 hectares, and is a coach and mentor, centering her coaching around workplace toxicity. Afshaan Shafi
Afshaan Shafi is a “third culture kid” and global nomad, who has spent her adult life working in the international arena in communication and public affairs for multilateral organizations. Born in India as the first granddaughter of an enlightened noble “Nawab” family, Afshaan was raised in a surprisingly liberal household, with a grandfather who was a judge who supported women’s rights, an aristocratic grandmother who was the family matriarch, a kind and influential father who insisted that she receive the same opportunities as her brother, and a loving mother who was a gentle pioneer for women’s rights. Afshaan is a single working mother, whose pride and joy is her remarkable adult daughter, whom she raised on her own in a foreign land, and who recently gave birth to her own baby girl. When she is not working, Afshaan loves eating out, going to the movies, concerts, ballet and the theatre, traveling with friends and spending real time with her daughter and family.

Born on the Caribbean Island St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Susanne realized there would be more in this wide world for her. A citizen of the Netherlands, she continues to explore the globe being of service wherever she can. Committed to continuous learning, and inspired by diversity and inclusion, Susanne worked with international organizations and travelled to over 70 countries. Currently she has her own wellness coaching business which allows her to continue her passion of helping others. With diplomas from Ashworth College in Nutrition, Diet, Health and Professional Fitness/Exercise as well as being an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer, Susanne mentors with adherence to latest industry standards. Danijela Milic
A contagiously optimistic person, civil servant and leader, Danijela has served the international non-profit community for the past twenty years. She has lived and traveled internationally—from Amsterdam to Amman, Beirut to Bogota, Strasbourg to Seychelles, Nairobi to New York. As a gender equality advocate, Danijela mentors women and is part of the leadership team of the Women’s Informal Network. As an avid supporter of the arts, Danijela created LeitmotivArts as a platform to promote artists in various genres. She has produced two jazz albums and conceptualized several concerts in Carnegie Hall and the UN for International Jazz Day. She has authored over a hundred articles, writes poetry, and co-edited and contributed to Sauti: Poems of Healing, the first UN book of healing poetry, raising awareness about mental health. Danijela holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Modern Languages, and a master’s in Public Administration, and considers herself a perpetual learner. When she is not immersed in service to others, you might find her walking by the beach, writing, attending a performance, watching sunsets or cooking. Danijela lives between New York, the shores of Lake Geneva, and her native Montenegro.
